Chamisa Urges Government to Address Teachers Grievances and Open Schools

Nelson Chamisa the leader of the main Opposition party (MDC Alliance) has urged the government to restore teachers’ salaries to pre-October 2018 levels, to improve teachers’ status, to regularise negotiating platforms, and to open schools.

Posting on the micro-blogging platform (Twitter) Chamisa said :

ADDRESS TEACHERS GRIEVANCES & OPEN SCHOOLS NOW

-Restore teachers’s salaries to pre October 2018 levels of at least USD $540

-Improve teachers’ status & conditions of service

-Regularize the negotiating platforms

-Open Schools under COVID-19 precautionary measures

Schools were set to open on the 10th of January 2022 but the government postponed due to the rising cases in Covid-19 cases.

Recently the acting President Retired General Chiwenga announced a further 2 weeks lockdown and indicated that schools were to remain closed.

The examination classes are set to finish their exams on Monday 31 January 2022.

In other news, Nelson Chamisa also hinted that the party is going to use a new name. Chamisa said that “a new baby is about to be born and the parents are its citizens”. He also said the village witches want to steal or kill this baby, It’s a new birth, not a rebirth.
