A Harare man tried to steal fuel from an Econet transformer at Tungamirai Farm in Gutu, but he was caught when he hit his head on a rock and passed out while evading the dogs’ pursuit.
23-year-old Kenneth Dudzai is being treated at the Masvingo General Hospital, and Masvingo Magistrate Farai Gwitima has adjourned his case in his absence.
Last week’s Thursday saw the occurrence. The two people who helped Dudzai remain at fugitive.
According to the State’s evidence, on Thursday of last week at approximately one in the morning, Dudzai and two accomplices attempted to take fuel from the booster, but Tasara Mutero (49), who was watching the transformer, told them to leave.
Dudzai attacked Mutero with an iron bar and hit him on the right hand and left leg and he sustained a cut on the palm and bruises on the leg.
Mutero let his dogs loose and Dudzai’s accomplices fled the scene. Dudzai tripped, hit his head on a rock and fell unconscious as he attempted to run away from the dogs. He only woke up at Gutu District Hospital handcuffed to a bed.
The trial will begin on September 8, 2022
