PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER – Competition and Tariff Commission

Competition and Tariff Commission

Applications are being invited for a vacant positions that have arisen within the Competition and Tariff Commission that of a Public Relations Officer and Accountant.

Duties

i) Study the Commission’s objectives, promotional policies and needs to build public relations (PR) strategies that influence public opinion and promote Commission’s mandate
ii) Build strong relationships and networks with colleagues, stakeholders and the media
iii) Ability to run PR campaigns that deliver measurable results and meet objectives.

iv) Developing a crisis public relations strategy
v) Handling emergencies affecting the Commission to minimize any damage or blow back from events or any aspect of potential crisis situation
vi) Organise events (such as press conferences, exhibitions, public hearings and press tours), source speakers and seek out sponsorship opportunities
vii) Conferring with managers to identify trends and group interests and providing advice on business decisions
viii) Organise special events .e.g. open days, visits, exhibitions and functions, commemorations etc
ix) Dealing with public groups and other organisations with regard to social and other policies of the Commission and Government legislation
x) Develop a Commission brand strategy and Maintain a positive Commission brand as well as strategic relationships with the public
xi) Preparing an annual Media Plan and Strategy

Qualifications

• Bachelors’ degree in Journalism, Communication, Media Studies, PR, Economics or related field
• Knowledge of competition economics and international trade issues
• Master’s Degree in Journalism, Communication/Media Studies, PR, Economics or related field is an added advantage
• Familiarity with project management software and video/ photo editing is a plus
EXPERIENCE
• Experience gained in spokesmanship, fundraising, events promotion, or journalism trades
• At least 5 years’ experience in a PR and marketing role
• Experience in handling press conferences
SKILLS
• Excellent written, report writing and analytical communication skills
