More Zimbabweans Deported From UK

The United Kingdom (UK) deported nine (9) Zimbabweans last week Thursday, just a year after another group of 50 was deported.

According to The Herald, Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom struck an agreement in June last year in which the former committed to treat deportees fairly upon their return.

The UK Borders Act empowers the British government to deport any foreigner sentenced to at least 12 months in prison, unless an exemption applies.

Mr Livit Magejo, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, confirmed the arrival of the newest batch. He stated to the Herald:

We received nine additional deportees and reunited them with their families.

Some of those scheduled for deportation filed complaints with the courts and were permitted to appeal.
