Teacher Rapes Unconscious Student
A Harare court has convicted a Glen View 1 high school teacher of a callous rape attack on his 17-year-old pupil, whom he had provided a glass of water tainted with an unknown chemical to induce unconsciousness.
Prosecutors established that Admire Kafurura, 29, exploited the child when she visited his office for extra lessons.
During the trial, the court was told that on the day of the offense, the girl notified Kafurura that she was not feeling well and would be unable to attend classes.
Kafurura handed the girl a drink of spiked water under the guise of helping her with her health condition.
She became dizzy and passed out after drinking the water.
She noticed Kafurura tying his belt as a hint that he was dressing up when she regained consciousness, the court was told during the trial.
With her clothing now alongside her, she also realized that she was not clothed.
She went to the Family Support Clinic for a medical evaluation after realizing she had been raped, which verified her suspicions, according to testimony given in court.
Later, once the incident was reported to the police, Kafurura was taken into custody.
Kafurura had been free on bail during the legal proceeding, but after being found guilty by magistrate Ignitio Mhene, he was imprisoned.
He is scheduled to return to court on Thursday for sentence and mitigation.
The State is being represented by Shepherd Makonde.
