Women’s AFCON Hockey Team Suffer Defeat In the Semi-Finals Against Ghana

The Zimbabwe woman hockey team was defeated in the last minute by Ghana in the ongoing AFCON hockey tournament. Ghana the hosting nation scored a winner in the last seconds to progress to the finals. The warriors who were fighting tooth and nail were first to score although Ghana responded immediately.

Ghana converted a penalty which was awarded in the last seconds of the game. Zimbabwe is set to play Kenya for 3rd place. The game was Zimbabwe’s first semi-final game since 1998. Zimbabwe qualified for the semi-final match after drawing with Namibia on Thursday.


Zimbabwe hockey appreciated the lady’s efforts and was proud of the progress the team made despite the defeat they suffered in the last seconds of the game. The statement by Zim hockey is given below:
